Palo Verde School and PTA News

From our PTA president….

Dear Palo Verde Families,

I saw so many fabulous books at the book fair this week.  It was hard to choose among them.  Alison Cormack, Gail Foelsch and Shuba Ranga, along with their volunteers did a terrific job with this multi-day event.  For Alison and Gail, this is their final year at Palo Verde.  We are very fortunate that Shuba has already agreed to lead the book fair again next year.  Our school is definitely a better place because we have devoted parent volunteers.

I particularly want to thank Lili Nova-Roessigs for her amazing efforts in creating this year’s school directory.  It is the result of many hours of dedication and careful attention to detail.  The directory is a fabulous resource for our families, but we ALL need to take care to respect and protect the personal contact information contained in the directory.

I would also like to thank our school PiE coordinators, Tania Nanevicz, Patricia Gibbs Stayte, Angela Chou, and their volunteers both young and grown, who enthusiastically greeted the school each morning during PiE Donor Days this week.

At our next monthly parents and principal coffee, we will be learning more about Project Cornerstone and a new character education program at the school.  More details will be forthcoming in the December issue of the Voice.  Please save some time in your calendars for the morning of December 8th.

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday,
Heather Schultz

School Directory

The Palo Verde School Directory has been distributed, one copy per family.  The school directory is published by the PTA exclusively for the convenience of Palo Verde staff and families to contact each other.  The information in the directory is not to be used for commercial purposes, political action, or any other uses unrelated to the PTA or to the school.  The directory is a service provided by the PTA to facilitate friendly communication among Palo Verde school families.  Creating the directory is a complicated and detailed process each year, requiring many hours of volunteer effort.  Please use the directory and class email lists appropriately.

Costume Drive Update

On behalf of the Tamahu School Project, I would like to say thank you all so much for your help in helping make the costume drive possible. It was a great success; we received many costumes and hope that Palo Verde can be an example to other schools on how giving a community can be.

Thank you so much for your help and support.
— Mieko Temple, Palo Alto High School

Lost and Found is overflowing!

During the Winter Break, we will donate unclaimed items in our lost and found cart to the PTA Wardrobe or other charities.

Please take a moment to look through the cart and claim your missing sweaters, jackets and lunch kits before they are given away.  You might be pleasantly surprised to rediscover an item you didn’t realize was missing.  Sometimes items are left behind at the school on weekends.  If you are part of a sport team that uses the field outside of school hours, please let your teammates know about our lost and found collection.

Family Giving Tree

Once again, Palo Verde is proud to host the Family Giving Tree Holiday Wish Drive. Please stop by the office and select a gift card.  Please return your unwrapped gifts to the Office by Friday, December 10th.

Palo Verde Spirit Gear Orders

The ordered items were passed out to the kids on Tuesday. If you didn’t receive your items or if there were any errors please email Ritu Das (rituparnad at yahoo dot com) asap.

Palo Verde School and PTA News

From our PTA President….

Dear Palo Verde Families,

There were a couple of fun occurrences at school this week I want to mention.

On Wednesday, our students participated in Mix-It-Up at Lunch Day.  Thousands of school across the country encouraged students to sit with someone new at lunch to promote an atmosphere of inclusion.  At Palo Verde, some classes chose to Mix-It-Up with their buddy classes across grade levels. Others simply found a new friend and a new location on campus to eat lunch that day.  Students tried to learn at least three things from their new lunchmates: their names, favorite foods, and favorite subjects.

Our librarian, Laura Losier, arranged an author’s visit for today at the school.  Jennifer L. Holm, author and illustrator of the Babymouse graphic novels and two Newbery Honor winning novels, spoke with students about her work as a writer and her own love of reading.  A few of her books will be available at our Book Fair next week.

Next week, you will be stunned to see how the MP room is transformed into a custom bookstore just for Palo Verde.  The Kepler’s staff and the Book Fair committee do an amazing job of selecting and displaying books to appeal to Palo Verde family members of all ages.  After attending last year’s morning book talk for parents, I came away with several holiday gifts for my parents and in-laws and a terrific reading list for myself, not to mention all the options for nieces and nephews.

Have a great weekend!

Heather Schultz
