New This Week
Deadline for Submissions of Mileage Tracker Forms
In order to recognize kids that choose to walk, bike carpool or take the bus to school, the traffic safety team is giving out prizes. To participate, if your child walks, bikes, scooters or takes the bus to school, please fill out a mileage tracker form for September, October and November and drop it in the office in the PTA basket marked “Mileage Tracker.’ October mileage tracker forms are due on Nov 7. We will hold a raffle during the last assembly in December and award some cool bike accessories to the winners.
Mileage tracker forms can be found
1) On the last page of the monthly Voice
Or you or your child/ren can write their name and room number on a piece of paper and estimate the number of days they walked/biked/carpooled in September and October and drop it in the traffic safety PTA basket in the office. Your child is eligible to participate even if he/she green commutes only once a month during September, October and November.
Parent Ed Event
When: Wednesday Nov 5th, 7pm-8:30pm in the Flex Room at Duveneck School (building just past the front office to the left)
Join biomechanics educator Pamela Rief and Duveneck parent Jennifer Antonow for a fascinating look at how a disruption in children’s motor patterns between the ages of 6 and 10 is affecting their ability to:
– stay safe on the sports field
– avoid overuse injuries and pain from technology use
– carry a backpack safely
– look strong, rather than slumped, and
– concentrate in school
Poor posture doubles the risk of adolescents developing back, neck, shoulder, or head pain (Brink Y and Louw Q. Manual Therapy. 2013). Learn about the efforts underway at Duveneck Elementary to improve school furniture and help students learn biomechanical habits to keep them safe and strong.
Join us for an interactive session where parents will gain tips for reinforcing good habits at home and selecting shoes, chairs and desks. Plus, adults will leave with tools to relieve their own aches and pains!
Pamela Rief is a graduate of the Stanford University School of Medicine, where she studied the design of educational preventative health programs. For her biomechanics education work, Pamela was recently featured as a future-making woman at www.Makers.comby AoL/PBS. Together, she and Jennifer Antonow co-founded the Strengthen Up Project, which is turning the science of biomechanics into practical steps to help coaches, parents and schools prevent musculoskeletal problems in today’s kids.
From Last Week
2nd Annual Toy Swap is Coming, December 6th!
Last year was so much fun that we thought we’d do it again! Set aside your slightly used and age-appropriate (no baby, pre-school or NC-17) toys and games and bring them to school at 9:30 am. The swap will start at 10 and run until 11:30am. More details to follow.
The Green Team is looking for adults and 5th graders to help out from 9-11:30 am in hour (or longer) shifts. Please contact Joslyn Leve, joslynml at hotmail dot com.

Try Our New Online Parent/Student Directory!
Within PAUSD, 10 out of 17 school have an online directory through a little organization called Tangleworks. When you registered with the district on Infinite Campus, you opted in to share your information for the directory. Your information has been uploaded into a Palo Verde specific directory that has the same data as our printed directory (minus any updates you provided directly to the folks at Palo Verde).
It’s secure: you can only access the directory by logging in with the email address you provided to Infinite Campus. After validating you are who you say you are through an email link, you will be able to search for your fellow Palo Verde parents and students with ease on any internet device. And bonus, you can make updates yourself if any of your information has changed so the online version can always be current!
Try it today!
– Navigate to https://paloverde.tangledir.com/
– Click on Click HERE to register or recover your password.
– Enter your email address you provided to the directory and click Next
– You should receive a password reset link via email almost immediately. If you don’t, check you Spam and/or Promotions folder. Password reset emails often get filtered as Spam.

Lost and Found Cart
With the change in weather and fall upon us, the lost and found cart is starting to fill up! Please remember to check the lost and found cart regularly for forgotten sweaters / hats / coats / lunch boxes /water bottles / boomerangs or pumps (I’m serious!) etc.
The lost and found cart is located near the office and is left out before school and for quite a long time after school.
If you can’t make it to school, there is also a virtual way to check:
I update the flickr page regularly, so check back often. The lost and found cart is emptied at the end of every term and the items therein are donated or trashed.
Labeling clothes and items is the easiest way to get your items returned to you, and can save you a LOT of money and time. Please spend a few minutes to save many dollars! Encouraging our kids to be responsible by putting their jackets/sweaters etc. in their backpack or on their hook outside their classroom is the best way to look after their clothes and keep them out of the lost and found cart. Items left on the field are often soaked by sprinklers, trodden on etc. and this diminishes the quality of those clothes.
