Sunday Afternoon Eichler Tour
Thinking about a remodel? Or just curious to see what others have done with their Eichler homes? There are still spots open for a walking tour on Sunday, May 3rd, through five recently remodeled Eichler homes of Palo Verde families. From 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., you can walk at your leisure from home to home, hear remodel stories from the owners, learn tips and tricks for what works and what doesn’t and maybe meet a contractor or two. Adult drinks and appetizers will be served at each location. Tickets are $20 per adult and all proceeds benefit Palo Verde PTA. Please contact Callie Turk (email@example.com) for details.

Palo Verde Staff Appreciation Week!
April 27-May 1
Staff Appreciation week is April 27- May 1! During this week, the staff will enjoy a traditional luncheon hosted by the Kinder Families (Thurs. April 30th) and the PTA will support a few venues (Door Décor by the students, Snack Attack and flower day).
In past years, we have offered that a flower from your garden or a simple statement, picture or note of what your child enjoys or has learned from a staff member often brings smiles and true recognition to our entire staff during this week: current or past teacher(s), classroom aides, resource team, librarian, office staff, custodians, Music, Art and PE! You are welcome to celebrate staff as you see fit for your family.
You might ask your child who they would like to thank!
For those who would like to purchase a small token, we recommend the “Staff Favorites Binder” located in the Main Office. Classroom wish list items are listed as well. Importantly, the PTA wants you to know there is no obligation to do anything as your ongoing support throughout the year is greatly appreciated.
(Room parents are not being asked to organize anything by the PTA). Thank you for reaching out to our school community with simple and kind gestures any day this week!

ONLY 6 DAYS TO GO: VOTE NOW TO RENEW $13M IN SCHOOL FUNDING!
VOTE NOW to renew some 7% of our annual school budget in parcel tax funds that expire next year. Measure A needs two YES votes for every NO vote to pass.
Update: As of the Tuesday, 9,979 ballots have now been received, or 48% of the total votes we expect to be cast in this election. 33% of the ballots are from a probable PAUSD parent households. Based on phone banking results and past voting demographics, 67% of our YES supporters still haven’t voted, and similarly 67% of likely parents haven’t voted. That’s a ton of YES votes waiting to be returned. We NEED to get the identified supporters to vote and return their ballots or this Measure could fail.
Please sign up to phone bank on Addison’s next phone banking date, April 27 between 6pm and 8:30pm at Keller-Williams on the corner of Hamilton and Cowper. If you can’t make it then, make up that date on any Monday to Thursday. http://www.SupportPaloAltoSchools.org/calendar until May 4. We need more volunteers, so please come and urge friends or neighbors to join you. We will call only identified YES Supporters to remind them to mail in their ballot ASAP (no postage required). A mailed in ballot removes them from our calling lists.
Ballots must be postmarked by May 5th, but should be placed in the mail by May 1st to ensure they are counted. Ballots have been mailed to you. Find your ballot and VOTE NOW. If you didn’t receive a ballot or have lost your ballot, call the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters at 1-408-299-VOTE.

Vote YES on Measure A
Mail in Ballots must be posted by April 30
PTA Council has proudly voted to support the parcel tax renewal, now called Measure A, including a $999 donation to the parcel tax campaign. PTA is the largest child advocacy organization in the country. While we are strictly non-partisan, we can and do advocate for ballot measures. This Measure is extremely important to pass to keep the 80 teachers, counselors, librarians and psychologists for which the current parcel tax pays as well as support the increasing student enrollment (+1100 student since 2008/9, projected increase of +700 in the next 5 years) . The modest increase in the parcel tax will enable a small expansion of funding to support struggling students, STEAM programs and student wellness. Even with the increase in property taxes we have enjoyed in the last year, our school district funds do not keep up with inflation. We have lost approximately $4 million of income annually from the Cubberley lease as well as having to fund our employee pension plan that the state has pushed onto school districts. Because we are a basic aid district we will not get more money from the state’s Local Control Funding Formula. Classroom Volunteers Needed in September – An Hour a Week Could Change a Student’s Life
Looking for parents to sign up now to begin volunteering in September to assist in K-4 classrooms one hour per week in East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park. Assist teachers in the classroom with individualized instruction much like you may have done in your own child’s school. These classes in the Ravenswood district have no parents helping and no PTA — thevolunteers make a real difference. The organization provides orientation/training and coordinates everything. Bus Driver Appreciation Breakfast

Each year, the Palo Alto Sub-Committee of SELPA 1 CAC honors the bus drivers who play a vital role in transporting students to and from school. The event will be on April 30th, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. at the transportation office. That may be because your child needs a different kind of approach–a therapeutic intervention for Executive Function (or dysfunction of the centers of the brain that deal with organization, prioritization, impulse control, sifting, sequencing, self awareness (metacognition), higher order thinking with reading comp and writing, visualization for short/long term memory, conceptually understand & sensing time for estimating, predicting, & more. Relay for Life Palo Alto

This is an organized community fundraising walk to raise awareness and money for cancer research–all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. During Relay. each team pledges to keep one member on the track, walking or running laps, for the entire 7 hours. This event is very family friendly.

Adventures in Writing Camp is a two week “day camp” program that allows campers to write, edit, and publish their own eBook under the guidance of professional authors.
