The Palo Verde Elementary PTA is hosting the Build, Engineer, Invent Science Festival from The Lawrence Hall of Science at the MP Room at the Palo Verde Elementary School on April, 18th 2022. The festival is designed to give students a free-flowing, hands-on experience at being engineers and inventors, with activity stations/tables guided by adult volunteers. Students from Palo Alto High School, Paly Robotics, will also provide a robotics demonstration.
Participants can go to any station they want, in any order they want, and short of damaging the materials or each other, they can do whatever they want to complete the engineering/inventing challenge provided for them. So expect a room filled with people designing, constructing, predicting, discussing, learning, and, hopefully, having a whole lotta FUN!
There are 2 sessions, 6PM and 7PM. Pre-registration (1 per person per session) is required but free. Indoor masking is optional but recommended, in accordance with the school’s policy. In honor of this being our first on campus event, the PTA is also providing FREE PIZZA. Please register for one or both sessions early so we can order the right number of pizzas.
We also need 20 adult or high school student volunteers to help manage the activity tables and answer questions.
On March 17th, the Palo Verde PTA hosted a Math Kangaroo USA, an international competition in Mathematics.
For the uninitiated, the Math Kangaroo takes place every year on the third Thursday in March, in several places throughout the US, and that students all from grades 1 to 12 are invited to participate. All the participants receive a T-shirt and special memento, and the top winners from each level also look forward to special prizes.
Students from Grade K-5, sat through a 105 minute multi-choice test as they worked through problems that also tested their critical & logical thinking.
Thank you to all the parents who prepared their kids for this test and accompanied them to the testing center at Mitchell Park Community Center.
The results for all grades will be available in May. Fingers crossed that our Eagles take home some prizes!
We look forward to making the Math Kangaroo a Palo Verde tradition!
