New This Week
Principal Update from Dr.Max McGee
Wednesday January 20′
Dear Parents:
At the request of the Palo Verde PTA board, Dr. Max McGee the district superintendent is coming to the PTA general meeting on Wednesday January 20, to address the parent community on the status of the search for a permanent replacement for Principal Anne Brown. The meeting will be in the teacher’s lounge from 8:15 am -8:45 am. This meeting is open to all Palo Verde parents.
From Last Week
Seeking Volunteers to Serve on the Nominating Committee Our school relies heavily on its PTA volunteers to build community and offer amazing programs that entirely and exclusively benefit our families and kids. The PTA is looking for a committee of volunteers (3-5)who will help us find candidates to fill some vacant board positions for the ’16-’17 school year. Some of the open board positions include Executive Vice President, VP Membership and Parliamentarian. Most of our current board members have children in 3-5 grades and will be moving on to middle school in the next couple of years. We are looking for board members especially from the K-3 families who will bring a fresh perspective and energy to the board. If you know someone who fits the bill or can help us find someone to fill board positions, please consider joining the nominating committee. This is a one-time position only and you will not be asked again to volunteer on the nominating committee. If you are interested in volunteering please contact PTA president Anjani Sarma at president@pvpta.org
Seeking Volunteers to Pick up and Deliver Coffee and/or Help with Set-up and Clean
As part of our community building efforts, the PTA has a tradition of providing coffee once a month during assembly. This provides parents/PTA members with an opportunity to stop after drop off and connect with other parents over a cup of coffee and treats once a month, vote on PTA matters during our general meetings and get up to speed with school events announced at the assembly.
We are looking for parent volunteers who are willing to pick up coffee for any or all of the upcoming monthly coffee socials from either the Starbucks on Charleston or Peets on Middlefield and deliver it to school by 8:05 am on the designated date. The PTA will pay for the coffee and donuts. We are also looking for parents (1-2) who will be willing to set up the coffee table and clean up after the assembly on any or all of the coffee social dates.
The following are the upcoming coffee social dates
Wednesday, January 20 (Tentative General Meeting to Appoint Nominating Committee)
Wednesday, February 3
Wednesday, March 2
Wednesday, April 20 (PTA Board Elections)
May, (Date TBD)
Please sign up here for the coffee social or to set up/clean up. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1R9bEHOGsDON-0gjBG0aazwH9KhhbZNdPnCahOEpCe3A/edit?usp=sharing
Farmer’s Market at Palo Verde
The Palo Verde PTA board has decided to trial run a farmer’s market at Palo Verde through Farmigo, subject to community interest and if someone volunteers to run the program on behalf of the PTA. Farmigo is an online farmers market featuring the best small family farms and local producers where the food is harvested or prepared to order. The online farmer’s market will be exclusive to Palo Verde families and staff only. Families/staff can order their weekly groceries, seasonal fruits and vegetables, to meat, eggs, bread, dairy, artisanal treats and more all organically and sustainably sourced from local farmers through a Farmigo website created for Palo Verde. Some of the prices are comparable to some of the organic prices at Safeway. Orders will be delivered once a week to Palo Verde. With enough orders, Farmigo will give 10% of total sales back to Palo Verde. The parent who volunteers to distribute the produce to our families at school on a weekly basis will get 30% off their orders. For more information on Farmigo and to see what they have to offer, please visit https://www.farmigo.com/market/ohlonekidsclub-paloalto
Please note, that this program will only run if we have a volunteer and sufficient interest among our Palo Verde school community members including staff. To help us gauge interest please sign up here if you would be interested in participating.
