Palo Verde PTA and School News

New This Week
Will You Consider Joining the PTA Board?
Palo Verde PTA is able to offer and support a variety of PTA funded programs such as teacher discretionary funds which helps teachers bring additional learning materials to the classrooms; reader’s workshop which is implemented in every classroom; the upcoming Children’s Theater which provides a theater experience to our 3-5 graders; Principal’s coffee and many more because of the support of it’s parent community both in terms of time and money. The PTA board oversees the non-profit that our PTA is and provides leadership and support to all of our amazing volunteers and programs. The board functions within our bylaws and requires quorum to release funds, consent to the calendar, approve budgets and new programs. Right now we have seven (7) members on the PTA board- all parent volunteers, a lot of them working outside the home, and all of whom joined the board with no previous experience.
We have two crucial positions on the board that are vacantand that will affect our quorum and ability to raise, fund and support programs- VP Communications who liaises between the board and community and makes sure the flow of information between the PTA, School and the community is smooth; and VP Fundraising who coordinates the various fundraising programs (Fall Parties, the Auction, the Walkathon that raises the money to support our programs). Both these positions  are very important to ensure that we as a PTA are able to continue to offer and support programs all of which directly benefit all of our kids. Both these board positions not only offer the crucial quorum without which we are unable to approve any spending or new programs, but also ongoing support to our amazing volunteer chairs and parents who run programs such as the upcoming book fair  funds raised from which support our library and ensure our kids have the best and most up to date books to read; the walk-a-thon which supports the very popular walking club, noon art and noon games which offers our kids diverse lunch time activities; and the international harvest fair, which brings our amazing diverse community together. The time commitment  required of the VP Communication and VP Fundraising is once a month when the board meets to vote on and approve items on the agenda.
We are looking forward to adding new leadership to our board so we can as a PTA continue to support our wonderful school community. Our first board meeting is Friday, 8/26 at 8:30 am in the teacher’s lounge.  Please contact President Anjani Sarma atpresident@pvpta.org to join the board or with any questions.

Konstella – PTA Communication and eDirectory software
Dear Palo Verde Families,
Welcome back to school!!  This year, your PTA selectedKonstella as our school’s communication and eDirectory software. Konstella will help streamline and centralize communication to create a great experience for everyone at Palo Verde.
We are requesting that you join our new secure and private parent communications platform to stay up-to-date on classroom and school-wide announcements, events, sign-up opportunities and to be part of a searchable directory, (with a smartphone app).
When you receive your invitation email to join Palo Verde on Konstella, we would like you to click on the link, add your name and create a password, you will be prompted to add child/ren, and place your child/ren in a classroom and setup your privacy preference.
Once you are on Konstella, you will be able to view the Palo Verde school calendar, school-wide and classroom events, announcements, volunteer sign-up sheets, join event committees, interest-based social groups (such as Kinder playdates), and much more.
We recommend that you download the Konstella iPhone/Android app, to stay connected with Palo Verde even while on the go. PTA believes with this will make communication and organizing easier, will strengthen our community and will help us better serve our children.

Seeking Walkathon Chairs
Palo Verde’s 11th Annual Walk-a-thon is coming soon! Money raised from the Walk-a-thon will be used to help fund students’ lunch time activities including Noon Art, Noon Games and the very popular Walking Club. There is a team in place the run the actual Walk-a-thon. The PTA is looking for someone who will coordinate the fundraising aspect- i.e. create and distribute flyers and promotional materials. There are flyer templates available from previous years. No fundraising experience needed. This is an excellent one time opportunity for parents interested in volunteering but are unable to make a huge time committment. We welcome more than one chair so please feel free to sign up with another Palo Verde parent/s. Please contact Walking Club chair Anna Carl abjuring@yahoo.com or Anjani Sarma, president@pvpta.org to sign up.
