Palo Verde PTA and School News

Palo Verde eNews will resume in August.
Have a happy and safe summer!
PTA Volunteer Positions
The secretary position has now been filled. Thank you Amanda Allan for volunteering. Thank you also to everyone who expressed interest.
We have other crucial non-board positions that need to be filled. The PTA budget is planned on the assumption that we will hit fundraising targets. If we do not hit our fundraising targets, we will be unable to pay for supplies/materials for parent volunteer led programs. This will limit how many programs we are able to offer Palo Verde kids and the community. All the money raised by the PTA goes back a 100% toward community building, enrichment and education. The PTA is looking to fill these important non-board positions for the 16-17 year. No previous fundraising experience required.
1) Fall party chairs: The PTA is looking for a team of 2-3 parents who will lead the Fall Parties community building/fundraising effort. The fall party raises about $5000 for the school through the parent hosted parties.  Essentially the fall party chairs will reach out to the Palo Verde community via flyers, enews and Voice promotions and seek out parents who are willing to host parties such as cup cake making, wine and cheese, book club, tea and samosas, mimosas, halloween, diwali parties and many more. These parties not only raise money for the school but  are community building opportunities for our families to connect with each other. The fall party promotion starts in September and runs through end October/early November.
We have the infrastructure and the software set up for the Fall party book. We are looking a team of 2-3 parents who will bring it all together. Please contact Anjani Sarma at president@pvpta.org if you would like to sign up.
2) Auction chairs: This year the auction raised a whopping $38,000. Thanks to the efforts of our auction chair Elaine Chase and her amazing team of parent volunteers, the PTA was able to pay for all the programs we spent on in the ’15-’16 year. We are looking for a team of 2-3 parents who will lead the auction effort for the ’16-’17 year. The auction is tentatively scheduled in March 2017. There is an auction friendly software in place and most importantly a team of parent volunteers who worked on this year’s auction and who are willing to do it again. The auction chairs will work to coordinate and put together the entire effort. No previous fundraising experience necessary.  Please contact Anjani Sarma president@pvpta.org to sign up.
If you have any questions on these positions or want to get in touch with this year’s chairs for more information please send an email to president@pvpta.org
Please visit this link to check out other volunteering opportunities and to sign up.

We are looking for a parent who will help the PTA board with online data entry mostly at the start of the school year. This is not a board position and can be done at home.

Screening of “Beyond Measure”
Sat, Jun 4, 2 – 4 PM,  1044 Middlefield Road, Redwood City Main Library
Beyond Measure sets out to challenge the assumptions of our current education story. Rather than ask why our students fail to measure up, this film asks us all to reconsider the greater purpose of education. What if our education system valued personal growth over test scores? Put inquiry over mimicry? Encouraged passion over rankings? What if we decided that the purpose of school was not the transmission of facts or formulas, but the transformation of every student? And what if this paradigm-shift was driven not by politicians but by students, parents, and teachers
Sponsored by Girls Innovate, Outschool.org and Redwood City Library. Free and open the public.
