PALO VERDE FOOD DRIVE
Palo Verde PTA is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties to bring hope, relief and security to our neighbors struggling with hunger. Your support allows Second Harvest to continue to provide for the 1 in 10 people in Santa Clara and San Mateo County that are served each month. Now is the time to take action!
From Monday, November 2 to Wednesday, November 18, our Food and Fund Drive will help the Food Bank meet more of the growing need in our community. Here’s how to help.
Visit our Online Food Drive to donate directly to Palo Verde’s drive. As one of the most efficient nonprofit organizations in the nation, Second Harvest turns every $1 into 2 nutritious meals!

DONATE FOOD ! Thanksgiving is just around the corner!
Drop off non-perishable food donations in barrels located at the front of school. Please consider these most needed foods and avoid donating items packaged in glass: Meals in a can (stew, chili, soup), Fruit Juices, Tuna/Canned Meat, Peanut Butter, Low Sugar Cereals, Canned Fruits and Vegetables. Please no refrigerated or frozen items. Please no leftovers from lunch bags or other perishable foods.
A bag labeled Second Harvest food bank will be going home with each student in their Friday folders on November 6th. Please help your child bring a full bag to school the following week and help them win a prize for their classroom. This year we are having a friendly competition between K-5th grades to see which grade will fill up their barrel first! Our school goal this year is to fill 6 barrels!

Be Safe. Be Seen. Bike lights are required by law for riding after dusk.
With shorter days, students are commuting at dusk or in the dark. Bicycle lights and reflectors are required by law at this time of day. Visibility begins to decline at dusk before the sun is completely down, so bicyclists are required to turn on their lights when light begins to fade. A handlebar headlight makes a bicycle visible to others and illuminates the road so the rider can see. Tail lights and reflectors should be mounted on something stable where they won’t be obscured by bags, panniers or other gear on the bike. Lights are vastly superior to reflectors, so a red light on the rear is recommended for maximum visibility.
Outfitting student bikes for a safe (and legal) ride is a smart investment. For safe school commute information, visit saferoutes.paloaltopta.
