The Fall Parties give everyone a chance to get to know other Palo Verde families, have fun, and generate funds for our school – all at the same time! All proceeds from the 2015 Fall Parties go toward PTA programs that benefit our children. You can buy a spot now until this Friday (Oct 2) at:
  

Remaining spots will be made available for purchase on site at the International Harvest Fair on Sunday, October 4th from 3-5pm.  Cash, checks and credit card payments will be accepted at the International Harvest Fair.

Palo Verde’s Harvest and International Food Fair is on Sunday, October 4th from 3-5 pm.  Please join us at our Fair where you can try out food samples and crafts from 11 different International booths and play harvest games on the lawn all run by our very own 5th graders.  We will have several performances at the Fair including San Jose Taiko, Thousand hands Buddha, Bharatnatyam dancers and Stanford Mariachi and a sneak peek at Science Night too.  Don’t miss this fun-filled day at Palo Verde!

PTA Consent Form and Waiver
Please complete and sign the PTA Consent Form and Waiver that came home in your child’s Friday folders and submit it to the office in the bin marked waiver. The form gives permission to all the family members  and children enrolled at Palo Verde to participate in all PTA sponsored activities for the 2015-16 school year. Extra copies of the form are available in the office. You can use one form for all volunteers and kids in your family.

 
SCIENCE NIGHT!  Mon, Oct 5th, 6-8pm in the MP Room

Come one, come all and have fun at Science Night on Mon Oct 5th from 6-8pm in the MP Room!

Did you know:

  • electronic circuits can be squishy or snappy?
  • red cabbages can be indicators?
  • a mirror can show you infinity?
  • cosmic rays are all around us?

Noon Games schedule for the rest of the year 

Take 40 minutes on a Thursday once a month during your lunch time, come and play board games with Palo Verde students. Your child will be very happy to see you and you will have a fun time helping out.

Individual picture day for those classrooms that was cancelled a few weeks ago,  has been rescheduled to Monday, October 5.   Please have your student bring in their photo order forms with payment to hand to the photographer if you have not already pre-ordered photos online.  Photo make-up date TBD after the pictures are delivered.  Extra School photograph order forms are available in the office.  Refer to poster in the office for more information or call Heslin Photography.

Parents, educators and staff are welcome to join a lively discussion with Dr. Tom Hehir.  An advocate for children with disabilities in the education system, Dr. Hehir is the Silvana and Christopher Pasucci Professor of Practice in Learning Differences at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.  Dr. Hehir will join the district in partnership to review our systems of supports for all students.

Gunn Athletics: Football Youth Night 
We have a game on Friday, October 7th that we would like to dedicate to the youth of our community.  Is it possible to adding the following message in your announcement in some form?

“Come join us for an evening of fun cheering for our Gunn Titans as they host the Los Altos Eagles.  All boys and girls, grades K-8, will receive free admission.  We will have giveaways of various prizes throughout the night.  Youth night is October 2nd starting at 7:00 PM.”

Let’s Talk is a chance for parents to ask questions and share ideas, resources, and support with other parents of students with IEPs, 504s, learning differences, mental health challenges, etc. All are welcome, participants must respect confidentiality.  
This parent education event is sponsored by the SELPA 1 CAC (www.selpa1cac.org) an all-volunteer group of parents of children with special needs.  This event is free and registration is not required.
 
Paly Theatre presents:Shrek Jr.

Love Art and Art History?
Volunteer docents needed to give presentations about the lives and work of Master Artists to PAUSD elementary students. Training provided by Arts Coordinator, Sharon Ferguson.  Art History background preferred but not required. Flexible hours.  Volunteer docent meetings/training begins Friday, October 2, 9:30-11 am. Weekly meetings held every Friday, 9:30-11 am at Art Education, 25F Churchill Avenue

Parents Nursery School Fall Carnival – Fun for the whole Family

Edible Science for Kinders &  Flight Engineering for 4-5th Graders 

The Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo offers hands-on, afterschool science classes for children.  A new session of classes begins October 6th, and registration is open now.  Check out three weeks of “Edible Science” for Kindergarteners, Tuesdays at 2:15pm, Oct. 6-27, to explore the chemistry and physics of food.  Older kids will investigate the forces that keep things aloft and design their own flying machine in “Flight Engineering” for 4th and 5th graders on Thursdays at 3:30pm, Oct. 8Nov. 5.  To register, call 650-350-2111 or visit www.cityofpaloalto.org/enjoy<http://www.cityofpaloalto.org/enjoy>.

Ending Chronic Veteran Homelessness in Santa Clara County – A community summit
Fri, Oct 2, 1 – 4 PM, Mitchell Park Community Center,  El Palo Alto Room, 3700 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto 

Did you know that Santa Clara County has the highest proportion of unsheltered homeless veterans in the country?  The City of Palo Alto Human Relations Commission invites you to an important summit on ending veteran homelessness.  Joining us as the keynote speaker straight from the White House will be Colonel Nicole Malachowski, Executive Director of Joining Forces, the White House Initiative on supporting veterans and their families started by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden.  The summit will include expert panelists on housing and healthcare and focuses on what our community can do to tackle veteran homelessness.  Info and RSVP:  mary.constantino@cityofpaloalto.org
