Nov. 16-18:  Kepler’s Book Fair

Nov. 24-28:  Thanksgiving Break

Palo Verde School and PTA News

From our PTA President….

Dear Palo Verde Families,

There were a couple of fun occurrences at school this week I want to mention.

On Wednesday, our students participated in Mix-It-Up at Lunch Day.  Thousands of school across the country encouraged students to sit with someone new at lunch to promote an atmosphere of inclusion.  At Palo Verde, some classes chose to Mix-It-Up with their buddy classes across grade levels. Others simply found a new friend and a new location on campus to eat lunch that day.  Students tried to learn at least three things from their new lunchmates: their names, favorite foods, and favorite subjects.

Our librarian, Laura Losier, arranged an author’s visit for today at the school.  Jennifer L. Holm, author and illustrator of the Babymouse graphic novels and two Newbery Honor winning novels, spoke with students about her work as a writer and her own love of reading.  A few of her books will be available at our Book Fair next week.

Next week, you will be stunned to see how the MP room is transformed into a custom bookstore just for Palo Verde.  The Kepler’s staff and the Book Fair committee do an amazing job of selecting and displaying books to appeal to Palo Verde family members of all ages.  After attending last year’s morning book talk for parents, I came away with several holiday gifts for my parents and in-laws and a terrific reading list for myself, not to mention all the options for nieces and nephews.

Have a great weekend!

Palo Verde Book Fair is Coming!

The annual book fair will be November 16 – 19, just in time for the holidays. This is a fabulous event when Kepler’s sets up a store just for us in the Palo Verde multi-purpose room, bringing tons of books just right for our elementary students and some for their siblings and parents as well.  As you might expect, it is a fundraiser for the.  The prices you pay are the same as in the store, and the convenience just can’t be beat.  Please e-mail Gail Foelsch (foelschg (at), Alison Cormack (acormack (at) or Shubha Ranga (shubharanga (at) with any questions.

For more information look for today’s Palo Verde Voice in your child’s Friday Folder.  Watch for the Calendar of Events to be sent home next week.  To sign to help, go to:

Book Fair Pizza Dinner

5th grade parents will be serving a pizza dinner outside the MP room from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, November 16, opening night of the book fair, as a fundraiser for 5th grade activities.  For $7.00 a plate, you can enjoy a slice of pizza, salad, a drink and a dessert.  Extra slices of pizza will be available for $2.00 a slice.

Please come to the book fair for dinner and support this fundraiser for the 5th grade!

Please Find Your Lost Items!

Our Lost and Found Cart is packed with sweaters and sweatshirts and water bottles.  Please take a moment to look through the cart.  You might be pleasantly surprised to rediscover an item you didn’t realize was missing.  Sometimes items are left behind at the school on weekends.  If you are part of a sport team that uses the field outside of school hours, please let your teammates know about our lost and found collection.
