Halloween Candy Buyback

Operation Gratitude is here in the Bay Area and will be sending 60,000 care packages to the soldiers in Iraq for the holidays…. THEY NEED YOUR CANDY and are willing to buy it from you. All you have to do is take your candy to a participating dentist office, then they ship the candy to the soldiers, who are happy to get the sweet treats to eat, or use as a goodwill gesture to share where they are deployed. You can trade that “unwanted” candy for $1/pound, or choose to get dental health gift bags for your kids. To learn more about the organization, and find an office near you, go to

Holiday Food Drive

Palo Verde PTA is coordinating its first community service project – a Holiday Food Drive- to help support the South Palo Alto Food Closet, affiliated with the Second Harvest Food Bank. The Food Closet is located at Covenant Presbyterian Church onEast Meadow.

Food will be collected in bins located near the school entrance marked “Food Drive” on 11/7, 11/8, 11/9, 11/10 and 11/14. Second Harvest bags will go home on Friday 11/14 in Friday folders with your child to make collection easy. 80% of our Holiday food drive will go directly to our local food closet, and 20% will go back to Second Harvest on the final day of the drive. Our goal is 300 pounds of food per collection day (11/7, 11/8, 11/9, 11/10 and 11/14).

Useful items for donation:

Regular sized mayo, mustard, catsup,
Jellies, peanut butter (not Costco sized, please),

Book Fair

The annual book fair will be November 14 – 18, just in time for the holidays. This is a fabulous event when Books Inc. sets up a store just for us in the Palo Verde multi-purpose room. The book fair has lots of books not just for our elementary students but for older children and parents too.  As you might expect, it is a fundraiser for the students of Palo Verde. Email Shubha Ranga (shubharanga (at) with any questions.

Pizza Night at Book Fair

During the annual book fair, 5th grade parents will be serving a pizza dinner outside the MP room from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, November 15, as a fundraiser for 5th grade activities. For $10.00 a plate, you can enjoy a slice of pizza, salad, a drink and a dessert. Extra slices of pizza will be available for $3.00 a slice. Please come to the book fair and enjoy family night with your Palo Verde Family.
